WHERE TO NOW?
WHERE DOES NICK GO FROM HERE... WHAT'S NEXT?
Now that Nick's short era at Talk Radio is apparently over, where does he go from here. Obviously he still has his job at Virgin to tie him over and keep him in radio, but Nick's style of broadcasting was made for talk, not for music.
Of course Nick is a strong character - he has been through all this before and he won't let it beat him. He's still got a very good position at Virgin Radio and he'll continue to be that station's best presenter by far. In fact listening to Nick's show on Virgin the day after his sacking he actually sounded very good, allbeit with a slight cough. He certainly wasn't some kind of wreck on air, although I guess we wouldn't expect that from him anyway.
Where Nick can go from here is a question that I regret I don't really have an answer for. It would be nice if this country was like the States with talk stations all over the place, but alas we only have the one, and that is going down hill faster than James Whale on skates.
In my opinion Nick will never work for Talk Radio again, at least not under the Kelvin MacKenzie reigim. His style obviously is something that will not fit the station's new format and he probably knows that. He'll probably spend the next few years working soley on Virgin just itching for the show he once had, the show we all loved.
Alas all good things must come to and end, but when a good man is knocked down, if he believes in something strongly enough, one day he'll return to where it was he was knocked from and do a bit of knocking himself.
Maybe some time in the future we'll all hear Nick on our radios again - perhaps even with Kev and Niki there too, and so long as that thought remains a possiblity we will never stop believing, never stop dreaming, never stop remembering, and most importantly, never stop loving the greatest man ever to grace the British airwaves - Nick Abbot.
